ALBURY TENNIS ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
MONDAY 27th AUGUST 2018, 7.30PM
- Adoption of Minutes from previous Annual General Meeting
- President’s Report
- Treasurer’s Report
- Junior Development Report
- Election of Office Bearers
- Special Business – Life Memberships
The following motions are put forward by the Committee of the ATA as special business pursuant to clause 4 of the Constitution which permits the committee to put forward persons as life members of the ATA. Clause 4 provides ” The Association shall consist of the following categories of membership:
4.2. Life Members who are persons who have been members of the Association for at least 10 years and who in the opinion of the Committee have rendered outstanding service to the Association. Life members are entitled to vote and are liable to pay all levies, calls, debentures and other fees but not subscription fees. Life members who are un-financial in any way may, at the discretion of the Committee, be permitted to retain all rights of membership but shall not be entitled to vote.”
Each nominee satisfies the criteria for Life Member and has done so for some time.
Each nominee has been a member of the ATA for at least 10 years. A brief but incomplete summary of this service is set out below.
Although Ken needs no introduction, we should formally record that not only has he been one of our greatest players of all time, Ken has been an integral part of the Albury Tennis Association as a player, coach, administrator and volunteer with over 50 years of service. While the honour boards record his success and commitment to tennis, it is his love of the game, strong family connections including with wife Diane and brothers Rod and Graeme, his strong relationship with junior and senior tennis in Albury/Wodonga and the region which has seen Ken devote much of his entire life to Albury Tennis.
A wonderful A Grade player who loves the game, Di has made incredible sacrifices for the Albury Tennis Association and in no short measure by also supporting Ken with the time he has devoted to Albury Tennis. As well as an incredible support for Ken, Di has spent over 20 years in helping to oversee the running of Albury Tennis in all its endeavours. Her commitment in all areas is very much appreciated and it is fitting she be recognised by the Association at the same time that Ken is because it is impossible to separate Ken and Di’s commitment to Albury Tennis.
Sandra has spent her entire life devoted to tennis in Albury. Coming up from our junior ranks, Sandra has been wonderful A Grade player and is passionate about tennis. Sandra has been an Albury Tennis Association Committee member and administrator for many years and needs to be honoured for her commitment. While she has had in part a modest paid role, her work ethic is well above and beyond what is expected. She has spent many hours in a voluntary capacity working and supporting Albury Tennis and ensuring that its general operation of the club runs smoothly, whether that be general administration, minute taking, canteen, pennant, chasing sponsorship, dealing with Tennis NSW and other bodies or organising functions or tournaments. This work goes on in the background and is often unseen, which is why it is important that we now publically acknowledge at this time the work she has done and the service she has provided.
Conclusion and recommendation.
It is appropriate in the committee’s view that these nominees be recognised for their contribution while they remain active members of the ATA, not just when they might retire from service. Recognising their service at this time will give them time to enjoy the recognition bestowed on them by the Association in recognition of their extraordinary service. The committee recommends each motion to the General Membership.
